In late 1964 the Bureau of Ships began acquiring a new computer for NASA remote tracking sites to process telemetry data for the Apollo program. The resultant Univac 1230 computer was housed in a CP-642B cabinet and used CP-642B logic cards, but had a number of additional features including an external memory cabinet with additional 30-bit magnetic core memory. Thirty nine of the machines were delivered to NASA, and an additional 24 were built for Navy use, with the designation CP-855. Univac Division of Sperry Rand Corp. photo.
