Biography

Frank J. Bingley (IRE Associate 1934; Member, 1936; Senior Member, 1943; and Fellow, 1950) was born in Bedford, England, on 13 November 1906. He received the B.Sc. degree in mathematics and physics (both with honors) from the University of London, England, in 1926 and 1927, respectively.

Since earning his doctorate, Bingley was continuously associated with television. He was employed by the Baird Television Company in London, in 1927, and was in charge of their New York Laboratories for two years. In 1931, he joined the Philco Corporation of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where he was associated with the development of transmitting and receiving equipment, as well as with television systems engineering. He worked extensively in the field of color television, and in 1962, he was in charge of a program of industrial and military television equipment design.

Bingley was a member of the Franklin Institute, served on many industry committees concerned with the development of television standards, and received the 1956 Zworykin Television Award from the IRE for his work in colorimetry.
